Croquet

Croquet is a sport that involves hitting wooden or plastic balls with a mallet through hoops embedded in a grass playing court.  Our members play different variations of croquet; namely: golf, association and gateball, the latter being a relatively new addition to the “croquet family” played at our club.

Association Croquet

When our club started (1982) this form of croquet was only played. Association croquet involves a rather complex style of play requiring a certain degree of skill to successfully compete.  Good players may make “breaks” or “runs” of several hoops in a single turn, while his/her opponent sits and watches patiently.

Golf Croquet

In golf croquet, a hoop is won by the first ball to go through the hoop.  Unlike association croquet there are no additional turns for hitting other balls. Golf croquet is the fastest growing version of the game, due to its simplicity, and the form mostly played by our club members.

Gateball

Gateball is a mallet team sport inspired by croquet.  It is fast-paced, non-contact, highly strategic team game, which can be played by anyone regardless of age or gender.  A game of gateball lasts for thirty minutes and the winner is the team with the most points at the end of the game.
